Five Helmets off the mark for Cromwell
We’ve done a world of schooling with him but I don’t know if his jumping is ever going to click. We’ve schooled him over fences as well. It was a bad race but it’s nice to get his head in front. I’m not sure what we’ll do. I suppose we’ll see what the handicapper does but his jumping will need to improve.
Daphne Moon toughs it out by a neck
Plan comes to fruition for Ciao Bella
It was a good opportunity and she got her five grand bonus as well so that’s why I was sticking to the mares' (maiden). It was a good step down compared to the races she had been running in so that’s job done and she’s won her (Weatherbys Ireland/ITBA NH Fillies) bonus. Hopefully three miles might improve her as she’s not quick and I don’t think the handicapper will kill her for that. She’s very straightforward and will be lovely over a fence as well. We’ll go chasing next year.
The Brimming Water springs an 80/1 surprise
That was a pleasant surprise. Conor thought it rode an ordinary enough race. This horse showed us quite a bit a while back and he seemed to lose his way. His last two pieces of work he seemed to come back to himself. Hopefully he might go on from this and, if the handicapper is not too hard on him, we might get another day out of him somewhere along the line. He’s a horse that will jump a fence as well and I think he’ll be better on better ground. He’ll definitely run away through the summer and hopefully pick up a race or two.

Red-letter day for jockey McConville
I’ve ridden eight point-to-point winners but that’s my first winner on the track.
