Odds-on Poli Roi gets the job done
Davy (Russell) was delighted with him, he said he jumped those hurdles a lot better than the Easyfix hurdles the last day. The last day he got a bit tired but today he was spot on and he jumped a lot better. He said he stayed really well as well, He still had loads of horse at the last. He lost a shoe at the last and probably just stood on himself after it and pecked a bit. I'd say he gave himself a fright too. Davy said he was going a bit too well down to it but he kept the forward momentum. He's definitely a horse to look forward to for the winter. He'll be a lovely staying horse over hurdles but his future is obviously over fences as he's a big horse. He'll have no bother with three miles, he stays well.

Melon too good for WKD rivals
Lynch & Gilligan on the mark with Alaliya
She's tough. I couldn't believe the price she was - the last day in Thurles it was too short for her and when she jumped the last she just flew. The favourite was 11/4 and she was 16/1, I couldn't believe it. They just ignored her. Three miles on a galloping track, she stays and stays. We'll see what the handicapper does and we'll plan from there.
Elliott doubles-up with Tombstone
He obviously learned a lot from his first run in Fairyhouse and Jack (Kennedy) said he jumped great bar the second last. They were racing down to it and he just kind of grabbed it and hurdled it a bit. Jack was delighted with him. He's a real hurdler and he likes to get on with things. The step up in trip suited him as well - two and a half would probably be his ideal trip. The softer the ground the better as he doesn't like it too good, it was nearly a bit too good the last day in Fairyhouse. Everything suited him today. I know it was unfortunate the horse (Gilt Shadow) falling but it looked like he was getting on top.
Crazywork too good for veteran King
The horses have been healthy and hitting the crossbar in a couple of places. I thought the ground had gone slow, a bit against us. It probably slowed one or two of the others down as well. When he turned into the home straight, he came a bit wider and met a bit of nicer ground and that helped. It was typical of those 0 to 123 handicaps - any one of eight or nine could win. It's just great to get one on the board. They are competitive races. He is a five-year-old rising six and has a big frame and hopefully he will develop into it in time. When you are finishing second and third with your horses in places like Galway, Thurles and Clonmel, it is nice to get across the line. Five hours might become four and a half on the way home!
