In-foal New River wins Kilbeggan opener
I thought the race she ran in Roscommon the last time was a bit stronger than this. She jumped very well and every race she has ran she was just staying on, so I thought the trip would suit. She's in foal to Jeremy (sire of Hughes' stable star Our Conor) and she seems to be improving.
First winner in Ireland for Westhaven
I'm really delighted for Jimmy as he's is a lovely man who has been with me for years but hasn't always had the best of luck. this horse has promised to win for a while and is a real fast ground type. He will go for a handicap hurdle next and we'll take it from there but he also jumps fences.
Ontheground gets Foley off the ground
he got very worked up the last day and I don't know why because it's not like him. he is the only National Hunt horse I have in for the summer so he is flying the flag for us! The winning syndicate (the CLG G C Syndicate, including members of the Connors family)are from Carlow.
Fourth win for Ocean Bright
Dessie doubles up as locals do battle
he's (Stonemaster) won one at last! It has taken him two years to win a beginners' chase and he's just not the same horse over fences as he was over hurdles. He is very idle and the horse in front falling (Present Potential at halfway) didn't help as he was left out in front but Davy gave him a good strong ride. I think he's going to head to Doncaster Sales now and someone else can have some fun with him!
Brassil wins another National!
there wasn't much room (bypassing the last) and there was four of us vying for the same position. I was talking to Martin (Brassil) this morning and to Frank Berry (McManus' Racing Manager) and they both told me he'd stay well and not be one bit worried about the trip. It's great to win a race like this and it's my seventh winner this season.
Mullins returns with a bumper winner
I only came back on Tuesday having spent a month in Australia, touring the East Coast with his cousin Emmet Mullins. We'd a great time and it's nice to be back with a winner. we ran him (Dr Schultz) back too quick after Punchestown and he'll be a fun summer horse who should win a hurdle or two.
