An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on landing after the final flight, when the winner, Wouldubewell (IRE), ridden by Tom Bellamy, interfered with GIO’S GIRL, placed second, ridden by James Best.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Wouldubewell (IRE) as the amount of ground and momentum lost was less than the official distance of three-quarters of a length.
The interference was found to be accidental as Wouldubewell (IRE) hung left on take-off, impeding GIO’S GIRL on landing so it had to be checked and switched.
On landing after the fifth hurdle, GIO’S GIRL, placed second, clipped the heels of Lilith (IRE), placed third, and stumbled, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of GIO’S GIRL.
