Westland Row brings up the hat-trick
We were lucky and that (luck) is the name of the game. We had a horse (Barra) fall at the final fence at Kilbeggan when he was going to win the Midlands National so it goes around. We got handed a race today but we'll take them any way we get them. We got there a bit soon as the plan was to get there going to the last but what could we do! . Six weeks ago if you told me he'd win three in a row I'd have laughed at you but he is after winning a few nice pots now so it's great. He's probably better over hurdles as he jumps better and we'll mix and match with him now in whatever he qualifies for.
Whoyakodding delivers under Blackmore
Two miles was too short for him the last day. He'll go back over hurdles now to the race he won last year at Wexford. It is an opportunity hurdle and he'll have to stick to what he knows.
Neatly-qualified Sting is latest string to Bowe's bow
we were close to giving up with her after her last run. It was only a last-thought to run her in this today as she was also entered in the bumper. it was a surprise and a bigger one than yesterday (with stablemate Jaime Sommers also winning at 25/1). We always liked her but she was fierce disappointing in all three of her bumpers but Brian (Hayes) said a combination of fitness, the hurdles and the extra half-mile made the difference as she wasn't a bumper mare. She is very well bred out of Sweet Kiln and Brian won on Sweet Kiln and this filly's sister Aunt Alice. Sweet Kiln's first three runners have all won and while she is retired, she has a Leading Light three year old and a Getaway yearling on the ground. Sweet Kiln herself won here in an amateur race under Brian and Sweet Sting is only four but should improve with age.
Two wins in 24 hours for Cusp Of Carabelli
It is an unbelievable few days. Everything was well with him this morning, we left him out in the rain and he went out and rolled in the muck. We were aiming him for here and it is a short journey. I was worried about the rain but JJ (Slevin) said he handled it well enough and he is improving away. He was a very hyper horse but is starting to relax and he has two great jockeys in JJ and Sean Flanagan and they make a big difference. He could have a break and then come back for Listowel and can mix it between hurdles and fences.
Samcro's half-brother makes winning hurdles debut
he likes jumping better than he likes bumpers and he is a very slick jumper. From the first time we jumped him he showed us he had a great aptitude for jumping and I think he won't have any problem going out in trip either. He gallops and really hurdles well and hopefully he'll make a better hurdle horse than bumper horse. He'll go down the winners' novice route and I think he'll handle soft ground too. He is a lovely looking horse and hopefully he will improve as the winter goes on.
O'Keefe earns plaudits for steering Josephina home
I was running her over a distance to give her a chance to get into it but it looks the wrong thing now. She carried him all the way today and he gave her a lovely ride on the outside and on the ground which wasn't cut-up. Sean (O'Keefe) rides well and won't have his 7lbs claim for long but hopefully we'll get another crack at it. I'm double delighted to win with her and she'll run back again in another handicap hurdle and we'll stick to two miles.
Mullins doubles up with Getaway Gorgeous
Patrick (Mullins) was happy enough to stay wide on her. Her run last year entitles her to put in a performance like that. I think she'll improve and we'll look for a winners' bumper with her. She had a setback but has come out of that well and she should handle winter ground. She was very keen there so will have to learn to settle a bit better than that but I'm sure she will with racing and with hurdles; she is plenty big enough to go jumping.
