Broomfield Bijou beats Banntown Girl in Ballinrobe's curtain raiser
she'd a few lovely runs and was a bit unlucky in Navan where she was travelling very well when a horse fell in front of her. It's great to get her maiden out of the way. I was a bit concerned about the ground, because she doesn't want it heavy, but when I walked it I thought it was lovely ground. She's a nice mare going forward over fences and might have one more run this season, we'll see how she is.

Bal De Rio ran on Monday and I entered him for this that morning as there was a small entry. The ground was right, he had a light weight with Dan's 5lb off him and he came out of his run at Cork fine. He's a ten-year-old so whoever backed him was brave, but he did it nicely after a mistake at the last. The horses are running well and the lad at Dundalk (Autocrat) is a very nice horse and is capable of winning a good handicap somewhere. He has already schooled over hurdles but is still a colt and there's been a bit of interest in him, so he could be sold.
Nine Graces wins consecutive races
we pencilled in this mares' race after she won her maiden because she wants soft ground and we thought there would be a good chance of getting it here. It is very soft out there and it's taking a lot of getting so we said we'd keep five or six wide for the better ground. She's very simple to ride, I just told Michael (O'Sullivan) to take his time because only two horses got home in the two-mile race, before this one. When it gets testing here, they walk. she's a mare that loves jumping - we ran her in three bumpers and she kept getting worse with every run. She's totally different with an obstacle in front of her. I'd say that'll be it for the season and she's a nice prospect for those mares' hurdle races on soft ground next autumn/winter. I don't see why she wouldn't jump a fence in time, she has plenty of scope.
