Conquering Cromwell wins Downpatrick opener
he eventually won a race! We went for a bit of a touch as a three-year-old in Limerick and he didn't quite get home and I thought he would have won races by now. I'm delighted for the owner, Turlough Blessing, who is from Dublin and who is a nephew of Colm O'Rourke.
Molly, Meade & Moore on the mark in maiden
he lives outside and since we let him out he has improved a bit, he used to worry himself to death in the stable. The race fell apart but he kept going and he got round in one. He mightn't stay too long over hurdles, I'd say he might go jumping fences because he's an out-and-out stayer. He's a grand big horse. He was second in a point-to-point and I bought him off the Doyles and hopefully he will win a few more.
Kate wins under canny O'Regan ride
she was a big price (12/1) as she loves it around here. The last day in Navan she ran no race and Denis (O'Regan) said 'slower ground' for her, and bring her back here. He gave her a great ride. He knew she would do is stay up the hill, which she did and it was a fantastic ride. He's a top-class rider and the best hold-up jockey in the country. He gets plenty of criticism for leaving them too much to do but he knows where the winning post is, if the horse is good enough. The filly deserves it, she's had 29 runs and was very unlucky in being touched off here a couple of times by fair decent horses. I honestly thought in my own heart that today off 95 she wouldn't be good enough to win - I actually thought she wouldn't beat (stablemate) Shipwreck giving her 10lb, on homework but she proved me wrong.
Course 'specialist' Muroor making up for past disqualification
he loves it up here and Conor (Maxwell) has him down to a tee dropping him back and he loves just finding himself picking up to them again. He has plenty of ability. These type of tracks suit him; there's a race in Galway and that's the kind of track will suit him. He doesn't mind it soft but once the real winter horses come out he might just find it a bit hard. We'll put him away then for the spring and summer. It's unfortunate what happened that day (when he was disqualified) - we have still no idea where the weight went.
Silver Star scores for Elliott & Russell
he was one of out better chances coming here. He travelled well throughout and he did it grand and everybody is happy. He has loads of different roads to go - he can go on the Flat and over fences. The owners (Royal's & Blue Syndicate) are all Summerhill men so we are hopeful it's the start of a very big weekend for us (Summerhill play Dunboyne in the Meath SFC final on Sunday).
Cromwell caps magical seven days with Downpatrick double
Finn's Boy wins Downpatrick's finale
he loves the job; I've thought about retiring him several times but he just seems to enjoy it and he enjoys being in work. I thought we might get another run out of him before the end of the season but I can't see him coming back to the track next season to be honest. He's home-bred and it meant a lot for him to win today. He was a little bit unlucky the last day, he unseated at the third fence in Sligo in a similar kind of race and he had perfect ground. I was a little bit worried about the rain but he got away with it there today. When you're in lesser company you get away with a lot of things!. We've been lucky here this year and we've always been lucky here. There's lesser races up here and it suits the lesser horses I have.
