Formscan - EL FABIOLO fluffed his lines when making a race-ending blunder early in the Champion Chase and was immediately pulled up by Paul Townend. The seven-year-old, who had gone unbeaten over fences prior, finally has his rematch with old rival Jonbon, with Nicky Henderson's star having to miss Cheltenham, and while that rival arrives at the top of his game following a hard-fought victory in the Melling Chase at Aintree, it wouldn't be a major surprise if Willie Mullins' charge had too much in the locker, granted a clear round of jumping. Edwardstone fell two out when fighting a losing battle in the Champion Chase and it will be interesting to see how connections play their cards on this occasion.

Quotes on Edwardstone (GB)
He wears his heart on his sleeve, he jumps well, goes out and does his thing. I was only half-watching when we could easily have been brought down and I wasn’t sure if we had at one stage, but the gods were shining on us. Thereafter he looked to travel really well and never missed a beat. Full marks to Tom as well — that’s his first Cheltenham winner and he’s given him a cracking ride. Tom is riding out of his skin at the moment. I’ve been training 22 years and he’s only my third stable jockey. He reminds me of Choc (Robert Thornton) as he has the most laid-back attitude. If he’s nervous, he doesn’t show it. We’ve always trained the good horses this way. I don’t think Voy Por Ustedes or My Way De Solzen came here under-raced and his races have been reasonably spaced out. As I said the other week, he’s just been two or three years in the making. He used to over-race a little bit, but running him in those big handicap hurdles last year was the making of him. People have doubted his jumping, but I’ve never had any worries about it. He’s always had the potential, but these good horses don’t happen overnight. It’s a relief more than anything. It hasn’t really sunk in yet. Thank God it was the second race on the first day! After Edwardstone (GB) finished 1st at Cheltenham on Tue, 15th Mar 2022 1m 7f Chase Good to Soft

Quotes on El Fabiolo (FR)
He did his job well because Dinoblue had worked very well during the week, and I thought if he made any mistake then she would definitely give him a race. Mark was very happy with her, so it was a good test and not a freebie by any means. She was getting 7lb from him and she is a good mare. He was very clean today and very good. Paul just sat very quiet on him, and he appreciated that and did his job. I’m delighted all the owners are here and they love coming to Ireland to race. They have raced in France and England extensively, but they say the experience here is way better. The appreciation Irish people have for racing is huge which you don’t get in other countries. After El Fabiolo (FR) finished 1st at Leopardstown on Sun, 4th Feb 2024 2m 1f Chase Soft

Quotes on Jonbon (FR)
I don’t know why, but everybody loves him, I know JP does as well. He dug very deep today didn’t he? And he had to. His jumping was very slick and it was a great ride – you saw him at his best today. All the guys at home do a great job as if you change the routine, you could upset this fella very, very easily. I think we’ve got the hang of him now, we’re learning!. I always wondered whether we should have been thinking about the Ryanair this year and when we stepped Shishkin up to two and a half we soon realised he actually wanted three. I’m not saying that about Jonbon at the moment as Nico thought that trip was perfect for him around here. I think the two and a half is probably ideal, although I’m trying to get Nico to say he’ll stay three. But we can think about those things during the summer. He is a flagship horse. He’s been there a long time now, you can go back to when he was battling El Fabiolo here in a novice hurdle here two years ago – he’s been at the top for a fair old while. He’s just been a star all the way through and we love him, I hope he loves us!After Jonbon (FR) finished 1st at Aintree on Fri, 12th Apr 2024 2m 3f Chase Soft
