Simon Zebo is currently on tour with the Lions in Australia but his namesake did the business for favourite backers at Wexford when Our Man Zebo took the 2m4f novice hurdle.
The betting suggested this would boil down to a three-horse affair, and that’s exactly the way it panned out as the trio had it to themselves inside the final half-mile. Sizing Sahara was the first to crack early in the straight, and Lady Of Glencoe (7/4) briefly jumped past the “jolly” at the last.
However Our Man Zebo (11/8) found plenty under pressure for Barry Geraghty, and the Michael Hourigan-trained gelding eventually won a shade cosily by three quarters of a length.
Sizing Sahara (7/4) weakened to finish another ten lengths back in third.
Geraghty said afterwards, “He’s improving and is going the right way. He jumps nicely. He didn’t get down the straight that well both times, and at the last I was happy to just go and win the race.”
