Zanzibar claims Listed glory Strait Of Zanzibar swooped on the outer to claim the Coolmore Hurricane Run Stakes at Tipperary. Shane Foley produced his mount with a perfectly timed run to lead inside the final furlong and claim the Listed contest. His clear run was in contrast to East Meets West, who was boxed in from over a furlong out and stormed home late in third place. Battle Of Saratoga, the other Ballydoyle runner who was sent off 2/1 favourite, cut out the running until being claimed by Strait Of Zanzibar in the final 150 yards. The winner had finised third on his debut in a Naas maiden before being a well-beaten fourth in Group 3 company at Leopardstown. Trainer Ken Condon revealed afterwards that the quicker conditions today had made all the difference to his charge. "We've always had plenty of faith in the horse. He was unlucky first time at Naas as we declared him on good to firm and the ground turned slow," said Condon. "We've been waiting for this ground and were always quite hopeful of a good performance on this preferred ground. "He's improving along the way. He's not the most straight forward. He saves a bit for himself and doesn't make things look easy but he has plenty of ability. "He's entered in the Futurity and the National Stakes. A horse like this doesn't come along very often for me and he could take his chance in one of them. "We also have the option of travelling abroad."
