Man O Work fulfilled the promise he showed on his debut to open his account in the second division of the four-year-old maiden hurdle at Naas this afternoon.
The Paul Fahey-trained gelding hadn't been beaten far when seventh behind Icare Allen on his first outing at Leopardstown over Christmas and built on that performance today.
Cian Cullinan, partnering his second winner, produced the 3/1 shot to dispute jumping the second last in today's race, run over just shy of two miles.
The Workforce gelding was steadied at the last and made a slight mistake but found plenty on the run-in to shake off the attentions of Global Expert and record a length-and-a-half success.
Fahey said:- “He’d a lovely run at Christmas. He’d never had a schooling race and was very green. We were hoping he’d reproduce that and he did.
“Hopefully there is a nice bit of improvement to come with him.
“It’s very good for Charles (O’Reilly), a homebred winner so it’s sweet.
“We’ll probably find a winners-of-one for him. He’s only a four-year-old so we won’t be hard on him and he could improve for next year.”
