The Golf Memberships At Gowran Park Maiden Hurdle produced a surprise, but not unfancied, winner as 'rules' debutant Willaston scored readily under 7lb Tommy Brett.

Pulled up in a point-to-point on his only previous appearance in May, the Morozov gelding came from off the pace to lead at the second-last and stayed on well to account for Bust Or Bray Dee by six lengths.

The winner was supported from 80/1 into 28/1 before the off.

Nicky Teehan, winning owner and partner of successful trainer Louise Lyons, commented: “Colin Bowe had him briefly last season for a point-to-point run and we rushed him to get a race into him.

“We gave him a break and Tommy (Brett) gave him a lovely ride. He’ll improve a lot jumping wise and up in trip. He’ll also handle a bit softer.”
