Viking routs rivals in mile maiden Viking Invasion powered clear inside the final furlong to open his account in fine style in the mile maiden at Gowran Park. The Joseph O'Brien-trained colt was back in maiden company today having finished mid-division in a valuable sales race at the Curragh last month. Dylan Browne McMonagle went to the front turning for home on the Mehmas colt and the 10/3 shot was asked to kick clear over a furlong out, going on for a six-length win. The winning rider said afterwards:- “He’s improved a lot for stepping up in trip. It was just a bit sharp for him the last day. “He handles this ground and quickened up well. “He’s a colt with plenty of potential and hopefully can keep on improving. “He stays that trip well and will have no bother getting a mile and a quarter next year.” Light As Air went to post 4/6 favourite but proved disappointing, coming under pressure turning for home and eventually finishing third.
