Unsinkable lands gamble The Ger Lyons-trained Unsinkable powered home inside the final furlong to land a gamble in the apprentice handicap at Leopardstown. The Verglas gelding, having his first start for the yard since arriving from England, was backed from 20/1 this morning into 8/1 and the support continued on course as he eventually went to post 11/2 favourite. Tom Madden, riding his first winner for the yard, held his mount up towards the rear before making ground a furlong-and-a-half from home. He hit the front inside the final furlong and soon surged clear to record a cosy two-and-three-quarter length success over 20/1 shot Barack. Andrew Duff, representing trainer Lyons, said afterwards: - “David (Spratt, owner) bought him in England and, if he ran the way he was working at home, we expected him to go close. Delighted with that and he’ll be put away now.” (Additional reporting by Alan Magee)
