The Willie Mullins-trained Turcagua galloped on strongly in the closing stages to claim the concluding bumper at Navan this afternoon.

Patrick Mullins gave the 5/6 favourite a confident ride as he tracked Bonny Kate into the straight.

The champion amateur sent his mount on over a furlong from home and Rich Ricci's gelding went on for a six length success.

The French-bred had been turned over at a short price on his sole previous start at Fairyhouse last April.

“He's a big chasing type. I think we'll probably try and win a winners race with him and he should improve from that,” said Mullins senior.

“I thought he was in a bit of trouble turning for home but once he got him balanced he picked up nicely.

“There is a 2m4f bumper at Leopardstown and also a 2m3f race at Naas in the New Year. They both could be options.”
