The Queen And Horse Racing

We all know that the Queen has a keen interest in horse racing. But the British monarch is also one of the leading racehorse owners in Britain.

According to information provided by the British Racing Authority, the Queen has clocked up almost £7 million in winnings in the past 30 years. Whilst the Queen has enjoyed close ties with the horse racing world since the 1950s, her horses have been performing particularly well in recent seasons. She has enjoyed a 15% Strike Rate with her horses over the last 30 years years which is no mean feat.

The Queen enjoyed one of her most successful seasons last year, when victories like that of Dartmouth in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot helped her to amass a stunning total of £557,650 in winnings.

Whilst the Queen has some way to go before she matches the phenomenal £5,513,737 in prize money that has been earned by Godolphin Racing, the monarch still sits in a very respectable eleventh place in the list of flat racing owners.

Sir Michael Stoute has been pivotal in helping the Queen’s success story as he has trained a number of her most valuable horses such as Dartmouth and Estimate in recent seasons and looks to have another good prospect on his hands with the two-year-old Elector which he send out to win on debut at Ascot in September.

Despite her undisputed success, it seems that the Queen won’t be happy until she finally manages to win the Epsom Derby. Four days after her Coronation in 1953 she saw her horse Aureole finish second in the great race. She came close again in 2011 when Carlton House was sent off favourite but had to settle for third place after losing a shoe during the race. Perhaps the unbeaten Elector could be the one to put the record straight in 2018. Follow his Derby Odds with Betway’s horse racing odds

Although the Queen’s success as an owner has given betting fans plenty to celebrate, it seems that she herself doesn't bet on horse racing.

Whilst the Queen has a sweepstake on the Epsom Derby every year, it’s the simple pleasures of watching her horses cross the line that keeps her spellbound by the sport.

The Queen reportedly is something of a horse racing expert and makes a point of reading The Racing Post every morning over her breakfast. She also has an excellent understanding of horses’ pedigrees and takes a close interest into the well-being of her own racehorses.
