The annual event will be taking place this year on Saturday April 14th, 2018 in Liverpool and each year it captures the hearts and imaginations of horseracing enthusiasts from all across the globe. While some may be lucky enough to travel to Aintree Racecourse and watch the races take place in person, the vast majority will have to find ways to celebrate and enjoy the race from afar.

So, if you’re part of the crowd that will be watching the race from afar, then we have some ideas that can help take your love and passion of horseracing to the next level.

A Little History on the Grand National

Before we jump ahead let's first take a look at a brief history of the Grand National 2018. This is a three-day race meeting with the big race taking place on the final day and attracts racing fans from all corners of the globe. The racetrack itself is located in Aintree, which is just outside the city of Liverpool.

The Grand National is an extreme test of jumping and stamina for both the jockeys and their mounts and is run over a distance of four miles and almost two furlongs. The race is run over a unique set of fences and horses and jockeys will face 30 fences that they will need to navigate without issue to win the coveted prize. All fences are jumped twice with the exception of the Chair and Water Jump which are only negotiated once each.

The first winner was crowned in February 1839, which just shows how rich its history is.

A huge milestone in the event's history occurred in 2014 when for the first time ever the prize fund hit the magical seven figures.
