TG4 jockeys series reaches climax at Naas

A TG4 documentary series following aspiring jockeys reaches it's climax with the Dushlan Na Marcach Sweepstakes race at Naas today.

Filming has been taking place since early September, on the series which is set to air in Spring 2012, as 20 wannabe jockeys aimed to win a place in the race.

The final field of eight has been whittled down from 60 original applicants.

Leading jockeys Kevin Manning and Davy Russell have acted as mentors to the riders.

They were put through training regimes by Tucker Geraghty and showjumper Suzanne Macken.

Those who successfully completed 'Boot Camp' were then placed with trainers Tony Martin, Gordon Elliott, Conor O'Dwyer and James Nash, before sitting for their Qualified Riders Licence tests with the Turf Club in late October.
