Inistioge handler John Clifford ran two in the (80-102) 2m handicap hurdle and it was his lesser fancied Naomh Moling (33/1) that came home a ready winner in the hands of Richie Deegan.
There was money for Clifford’s other runner Gallic Boy (16s into 13/2) but that one faded after racing prominently as Naomh Moling, off a mark of 85 on handicap debut, came through to lead two out. He quickly put his stamp on the race and went away to beat Tom McGreevy by ten lengths with Close Enough another length and a quarter back in third.
After Alvaro rsquo;s 66/1 win in the previous race, Naomh Moling came home to a fairly muted reception from the well-populated stands at this student meeting.
“That’s a bit of a surprise," said Clifford.
"He had a bit of wind trouble and we had his palate lasered after his last run.
“That seems to have done the trick and the better ground helped as well.”
