After a good run of results punters were left scratching their heads as Slim To None took the concluding two and a half mile handicap hurdle at 33/1 for trainer Philip Rothwell.
The six-year-old was pulled up on his last racecourse appearance in Tramore in April, but had also been fifth of 16 to Afram Blue in Navan in March.
Tote players were even less likely to have found the winner as the win dividend paid 76.40 euro with an exacta of 446.80 euro, even though 3/1 shot Our Girl Lucy came in second.
Recent Cork winner Our Girl Lucy again tried to do it the tough way from the front but was picked off after the last when Brian O’Connell and Slim To None kept on best for a two and a quarter length victory.
This winner took Rothwell off the cold trainers list after a run of 60 races without success. Harangue who won on Sunday in Sligo, came home third and was the 2/1 favourite. He was beaten seven and a quarter lengths by the winner.
“The horse was given a good break to freshen up after his last run and it had the desired effect. He had some bits of form before that,” Philip Rothwell said.
The stewards enquired into the running of Sughera who finished 10th and travelled well into mid-division from rear, but made no further headway.
Jockey Ruby Walsh reported that his mount got very upset in the parade ring and at the start and started to struggle off the home bend. Sugera was found to be post race normal.
