Tawaazon recorded his sixth win of the campaign when making virtually all in the Stephen Quirke Memorial Handicap.

The 18/1 chance was quickly into stride under Jamie Powell and soon led. The blinkered-five-year-old was pressed on either side in the final furlong but dug deep as usual to see off Gustavus Weston and Mymomentintime by half a length and a head.

Winning owner/trainer James McAuley said: “Touch wood the horses seem to be back in good form.

“I’d say this lad needed the run at Bellewstown mentally as much as anything else.

“He ended up on the vet's list. We had to medicate him a few times and every time he goes to the races now he has to trot up. Hopefully the fact that he’s winning now, it might be easier to get him off it.

“He has plenty of mileage and wear and tear but has been a brilliant servant to us.

“When we claimed him he won two weeks in a row in Dundalk and you would think he wouldn’t walk on soft ground but then he won a Premier Handicap on soft. He’s just very versatile and when you have him right he’s good and hardy.”
