Simply Sideways takes winning haul to five in five months The rapid improvement of Simply Sideways seems to know no bounds and she recorded a fifth win this season when taking the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel Handicap at Tipperary. The Tim Doyle-trained mare gained her initial victory this year off a mark of 48 at Gowran Park back in May but has improved in leaps and bounds since and was scoring here off 81. Wayne Hassett’s mount travelled well throughout and the easy-to-back 13/2 shot led over a furlong out before drawing clear to beat Trachonitus by two and three quarter lengths with Timeless Soul in third. Doyle said, “That surprised me as I thought it was a competitive handicap but Wayne said she travelled all the way and on that ground she was well able to quicken. “Her best runs have been on soft ground but she’s won on good as well. “She’s taking it all in her stride and it’s amazing how much she has improved. We might give her one shot at a Listed race in Naas in a fortnight’s time. When a filly is in form you never know. “The horses are healthy and well and she has been the flagbearer and led them along. I ride her out myself every day and her work has improved out of the way from every run. “She has a great temperament and is very relaxed. She does what she has to do on the track, the ideal horse for a lad like me!”
