Expound (15/8f) made virtually all to land the Comida To Come Handicap for Denis Hogan, Joey Sheridan and the Corner House Syndicate.

The duo began to turn the screw on the field in the final quarter of a mile and kicked for home with a furlong and a-half to travel.

The race began to get interesting in the closing stages as both Moonlit Mist and Malbay Madness thrust into contention on either side of the leader.

Sheridan had got the fractions right, though, and his partner, who parked a shade, held on by half a length from Moonlit Mist (6/1).

Hogan said: "He was very good but was probably only doing enough in front, with his ears pricked.

"He’s been a great servant for us this year. He’s after winning over hurdles, winning a maiden on the flat, and he’s been placed loads.

"It took him a while to get his head in front, but it looks like the lads are after finding the key to him, making the running.

“We just spoke about where we might go next and we’ll go wherever we can get nice ground. Listowel can be iffy, but we’d all love to go there. There’ll probably be a better chance of getting good ground on the Flat there early in the week.

"Nowadays, with watering and rain that’s not forecast appearing, we’d probably take good ground wherever we could find it.”
