Sanus Per Aquam another for Bolger Sanus Per Aquam got the better of fellow newcomer Lieutenant General in the Curragh to give Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning success in the opening seven furlong juvenile maiden for colts and geldings. This looked an interesting maiden on paper with plenty of well-bred individuals representing leading stables and there was plenty of money around for several of them. Only three horses got into the race though. Brendan Duke's Leath Na Hoibre, having his third start, was pushed up by Ronan Whelan to lead early on. At this stage, Sanus Per Aquam and Lieutenant General disputed second just a length off the leader. Sanus Per Aquam and Lieutenant General came to join the under pressure Leath Na Hoibre two furlongs out. At the furlong marker they both went on from Leath Na Hoibre who was well clear of From Eden in fourth. Inside the last 200 yards Lieutenant General held a narrow advantage but Sanus Per Aquam battled back to get up close home and win by a length and a quarter at 7/1. Runner-up Lieutenant General was backed at the track from 10/1 to 5/1. He came in five lengths ahead of Leath Na Hoibre (20/1). Jim Bolger said: "He's a big raw two-year-old and has the physique to progress well. If I was a proper trainer you wouldn't see him next until a Derby Trial! He could come back here for the Futurity and possibly the National Stakes after that." BoyleSports introduced him at 33/1 for the Investec Derby. He is a full brother to Morning Mix who won well at the Curragh on Friday evening. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
