Harry Rogers recorded a 1-2 for the second time in a fortnight with the same horses, when his Cheval Rouge defeated stablemate Irish Reel to help him to the lion's share of the prize for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap at Roscommon today.
Twelve days ago at Sligo, Cheval Rouge defeated Irish Reel by half a length and on revised terms today, increased her winning margin, this time to one length. Winning jockey Sam James was also on board Cheval Rouge in her win at Sligo.
After the win, a chuffed Rogers (picking up €17,000 of the €20,000) joked “it (the money) is all going to a good cause and both horses are owned by my favourite owner (Rogers' wife Mary)!”
“I was hoping either would get into the money today and in the end, one helped the other in that Cheval Rouge is best when covered up. She is due to run again tomorrow and I see no reason why she won't.”
“Irish Reel deserves to win one too and will either run at Tipperary on Bellewstown later this week.”
