Record price for National Hunt horse at Doncaster

J P McManus smashed the world record for a National Hunt horse when going to 530,000gns for Garde Champetre in a hectic days trading at Doncaster yesterday.

The five-year-old gelding won the Grade 2 Mersey Novice Hurdle for the Million In Mind Partnership at Aintree last month, and his former trainer Paul Nicholls and Irish agent Gerry Hogan were among the underbidders.

´He was bought for JP and goes to Jonjo O´Neill. His form is very good and we hope he´ll make a nice chaser,´ McManus´ racing manager Frank Berry told the Racing Post.

The previous record for a jump horse was the 340,000gns paid for Royal Rosa here last year, while other significant purchases yesterday were Grade 2 Aintree bumper winner Diamond Sal (200,000gns) and recent Punchestown bumper winner Rogues Gallery (150,000gns)both secured by Howard Johnson for his principal patron Graham Wylie.
