Professional ladies best in bumper Many of the races went along expected lines at Cork but there was a surprise result to conclude at the Mallow venue as 33/1 shot Oscars Boss got the better of 20/1 hope Ballyegan Hero in the Download The Coral App (Ladies Pro/Am) Flat Race. The two professional riders in the line-up took the gold and silver medal positions as Katie O'Farrell got Adrian Maguire's Oscars Boss home by a length and a quarter from the Rachael Blackmore-ridden John Joe Walsh representative Ballyegan Hero. Two to one on favourite Broken Soul was a big disappointment for Gigginstown House Stud, Gordon Elliott and Nina Carberry, failing to pick up in the straight and eventually coming home in sixth. "That's my first winner as a professional and it was also my first ride for Adrian (Maguire) although he rode horses for my parents when I was small," revealed O'Farrell. "I'm freelance and ride out for Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott, Shay Barry and Enda Bolger. "He is a very nice horse and only did what he had to do and it's great to get this win on the board. "The reason I turned (professional) was because most of my rides were over hurdles and there were more opportunities over jumps for me. I had nothing to lose and also had the support of a few of our own horses at home." Meanwhile Maguire said: "He needed time and came back very sick after Leopardstown. He's a big horse - 17 hands, and Katie gave him a super ride. He might go to the sales but I hope not." Ms N. Carberry, rider of Broken Soul trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her mount ran flat. (TW & EM)
