Pineapple Island certainly didn't go unbacked at 28/1 for the five-furlong maiden in Cork.

She was backed down from 50/1 and raced prominently for Hugh Horgan in this dash.

The Dandy Man four-year-old came with her challenge and picked off Beaumadier inside the furlong marker.

The front two moved clear in the closing stages and it was Pineapple Island who found most to score by a length and a half from the 3/1 joint favourite.

The other 3/1 joint favourite, Two Stars came in third some three and a-half lengths away.

Trainer Takashi Kodama said: "I bred and trained the dam, who is in Japan now and this is her first foal. I have a yearling by Saxon Warrior which is due to sell at a Japanese sale in July so was hoping she would be placed today although it is a surprise she won.

"She was difficult to keep sound as a two and three-year old, but she has finally become stronger and ran quite well on soft ground last October. I decided to keep running this year, hoping to be placed so this is a bonus.

"I think she will improve again and I'll try to win a few more races with her.

"I only have two or three horses."
