Nothing Hidden about the talent of Oasis A failed gamble on his last start, Hidden Oasis (5s into 4s here) showed his true worth when triumphing in the opening Guinness 17:59 EBF Median Auction Maiden at Galway. Fran Berry tracked the strong Rosewell House favourite, Backdrop aboard the successful Lawman gelding and he left that American-bred first-timer behind from over a furlong out. The J P McManus-owned and David Wachman-trained victor eventually crossed the line ten lengths to the good from Trikala. Backdrop paid for doing too much too early and faded into fourth. McManus racing manager and the winning jockey's father Frank Berry said: "He looked promising in his first run but then disappointed at Fairyhouse when he didn't do the business. "It's just great to see him come back." Berry junior meanwhile explained: "He never really got organised on the firm ground at Fairyhouse but he came home well. "We were obviously going a stride slower here on this ground and I was always very very happy. "He quickened up well on the bad ground and stretched away well." (TW & EM)
