North Light faces ten rivals

The Budweiser Irish Derby has attracted the first four home in the Vodafone Derby as 11 were declared this morning for the 1.3 million euro highlight of the Irish season.

North Light bids to become the 16th horse to complete the Epsom/Curragh Derby double and in the process provide champion jockey Kieren Fallon with his first Irish Derby success and add to trainer Sir Michael Stoute´s three previous wins in the classic.

Godolphin have taken the bold move of supplementing Rule Of Law for 95,000 euro and, while he finished strongly along with Let The Lion Roar at Epsom, it is difficult to envisage him over-turning the placings.

Aidan O´Brien saddles five of the 11 runners and Jamie Spencer has surprisingly elected to ride Cobra, third on his reappearance in a Listed race at Leopardstown in preference to the stable´s two Royal Ascot winners Five Dynasties and Moscow Ballet.

As expected, Dalayan was taken out while Mikado has been re-routed to the Group 3 Curragh Cup tomorrow. The French Derby fourth Day Flight and champion Irish juvenile Grey Swallow complete the line-up.
