Murtagh gets Lahar home in Mimosa Johnny Murtagh drove Miss Lahar to the front in the dying strides as the Engish raiders fought out the finish in the Dark Angel EBF Sweet Mimosa Stakes at Naas. Allegra Tak took them along early in the six-furlong Listed contest but was headed before half-way by 11/4 favourite Minalisa. Rae Guest's filly was tracked through by Miss Lahar with over two to run and the pair settled down to scrap it out from the furlong marker. Minalisa looked to be holding Mick Channon's charge inside the final furlong but Murtagh got more from Miss Lahar close home as the 15/2 shot got up for a head victory. The pair came close inside the final furlong but after having a look the stewards let the result stand. “Mick told me she was very honest. I probably got there a bit too soon but she battled right to the line,” said Murtagh afterwards. “We got a bit close but I felt mine was well on top. I rode her mother to win and now her – it shows how old I'm getting!” The winner was gaining a deserved Listed success having been placed in five stakes races previously. Snow Queen stood in the stalls as they opened and lost all chance. She came home a distance behind the field. (Additional reporting by Alan Magee)
