Lord Jim (13/2 into 7/2, eventually finished 2nd) and Imaginationrunwild (13/2 this morning into 4/1, ended up finishing 4th) were the lively ones in the market for the Gowran Park Golf Club Handicap but the big on course drifter Kanes Pass (coming off a 200-day-break) was the one that prevailed.
Representing the same connections as Monday's Curragh winner, Valbucca, the Cosgrave's and trainer, Willie McCreery, Kanes Pass (11/2 out to 9s) was ridden by 5Ib claimer, Shane Kelly.
Kanes Pass was always up there and she stayed on well under pressure in the final furlong to see off the aforementioned Lord Jim by a length and a quarter.
"I was delighted when the rain came. She won on similar ground at Galway (last July). It was no harm to see a few of them come out here either.
"I told Shane to keep over on the rail and not to give it up. All of the winners have been coming from the front so that was the tactic to use.
"It's nice to have a mare that really tries like that and she's by a very nice sire in Clodovil.
"We’ll keep her to tight tracks now and hopefully she’ll get draws that suit her," commented McCreery in the aftermath. (DM & EM)
