The John and Thomas Kiely-trained Liberated Light added to a Flat maiden win at Killarney last year when taking the concluding Whitebox Property Group Handicap Hurdle at Limerick.

The Muhaarar gelding, owned by Claire Gleeson and ridden by her son John, led approaching the second last and kept on well on the run-in to hold off the challenge of Wardens Whisper by half-a-length. Aboy Joey couldn’t find any extra after pecking on landing at the last finishing a further seven and a half lengths back in third.

John Gleeson said, “It’s always great to ride a winner for mam and dad.

“It’s been a long time between drinks with him and it’s taken him a while to win over hurdles but he’s put it all together today, so it was great.

“I think the cheekpieces today helped as well.”
