Milsean ploughed his way through Limerick’s heavy ground as he made every yard in the closing bumper.

Representing Willie and Patrick Mullins, the imposing son of Milan was sent off the 4/7 favourite to get back into the winners’ enclosure. The only blemish in his form came last time in Naas when he was beaten by the useful No More Heroes. Previously he had won a point-to-point in Dromahane and a bumper in Navan. Montys Meadow (7/2) looked to make a race of it at the 3 furlong pole as he closed under Jane Mangan into second, but in the home straight Milsean pulled clear for a 25-lengths win.

Montys Meadow took second place, six and a half lengths in front of Trust No One

“He’s a big horse. He mightn’t want the ground too dry, but he’s a possible for Punchestown or the Curragh,” Patrick Mullins said.

“The change in tactics brought about the improvement in him. We decided not to pull out of him and let him go on as he’s a relentless galloper. We weren’t making use of his cruising speed before.”
