Mica Malpic won for the third time over fences when staying on best from two out to easily take the Kilmurray's Homevalue Hardware Mullingar Handicap Chase at Kilbeggan.

The Enda Bolger trained six-year-old appreciated stepping back up in trip here, having kept on nicely when third over shorter at Tipperary on his most recent outing.

Carrying the J.P. McManus silks, the son of Hunter's Light was pushed along after the second last before making steady headway to close on the leaders on the run to the final fence.

Mark Walsh asked for a big jump at that obstacle and the gelding obliged to come away a couple of lengths in front before quickly going clear on the run-in.

Enda Bolger, “He showed a bit of foot there off the bend and jumped the last well. I really don’t know where we are going to go from here.

“He won the three miles amateur race last year in Listowel. That (2m3f) seemed to be ideal today and the horses are running well which is the main thing. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
