Caroline Hutchinson, best known as an accomplished lady rider, recorded her first winner since taking out a full training licence when Wotsitooya landed a huge gamble in the Garryrichard Stud Hunters Chase at Wexford yesterday evening.
Denis Cullen's mount, successful three times in point-to-points, led after two out to beat Gallant Glen by nine lengths.
Tom Queally recorded his first winner of the season when the well-supported Beebeep readily landed the Tuskar Rock Handicap in runaway fashion.
Frank Ennis' charge led over a furlong out, and quickened clear in great style to beat Eagles Valley by eight lengths. 'She is a tough little mare, and we will continue to mix it with her between the Flat and hurdles', said the successful Curragh handler.
Queally (16), the reigning champion apprentice, was fancied to follow up in the Rosslare Point Handicap aboard To Your Honour. The 11/8 favourite held every chance in the straight but could only manage fourth as Cronin's Boy came through to beat topweight Darialann by half a length.
The Baltimore Man provided amateur Pa Murphy, previously successful four times in bumpers, with his first jumping winner in the Taipan Maiden Hurdle. Tony Mullins' odds-on chance made most of the running, and was ridden out from the last to beat Jackie C by half a length.
'There is no doubt he has ability but I was a bit disappointed with his jumping. He will probably go for a winners race at Killarney later this month', said Mullins.
Dr Torus cruised to the front inside the final half of the Carnsore Point Maiden but needed to be driven out in the closing stages by Joe Casey to hold Peace Leader by a neck. The result was confirmed after a stewards enquiry into possible interference early in the straight involving the first three home.
'He has been a great servant winning three times but I thought today's trip (a mile and five furlongs) might be a bit sharp. He's a summer horse, and will go handicapping both on the Flat and over hurdles', said trainer Philip Rothwell.
