Review NAVAN 27TH NOV

Prince Of Tara belied his inexperience over fences to run out a game winner of the William Hill In Ireland Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan.

Steve Mahon's gelding was making only his third chase start but Barry Geraghty was confident enough to send his mount to the front seven from home in the 85,000 event.

He travelled strongly into the straight but a mistake three out put him under pressure and he had to work hard from the last to hold the challenge of A New Story by a length.

Geraghty had earlier initiated a double when Justpourit opened his account in the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle.

The Dessie Hughes-trained gelding had leapt to the front three out and stayed on strongly to hold the challenge of Clew Bay Cove by half a length.

The Tote Exacta 'Monksfield' Novice Hurdle produced a terrific finish with Powerstation wearing down Travino close home to prevail by the narrowest of margins.

Powerstation moved through to challenge Travino at the second last but a mistake at the final flight knocked his momentum. He responded well for Davy Russell, however, and just got his head in front where it mattered.

'He battled well', said winning trainer Charles Byrnes afterwards. 'It was a super run at Cheltenham last time and I thought all he had to do was reproduce that to win here - I couldn't understand why he wasn't favourite.

'He'll come back here for the Barry & Sandra Kelly Novice Hurdle (December 10th).'

The winning partnership was denied a quick double when Mouftari narrowly lost out in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle.

The 7/2f came with a late challenge but just failed to peg back More Like It. The Martin Brassil-trained winner kept on gamely, under Tony McCoy, having hit the front three out.

Paul Carberry was stood down for the day after a fall aboard Nicanor in the 'Monksfield' Hurdle and Michael Darcy stepped in for the winning ride on Father Matt in the Leinster Petroleum EBF Beginners Chase.

Noel Meade's gelding was making it third time lucky over fences, having fallen twice, and stayed on strongly to master 4/5f Publican before the last - going on to beat Shuil Coillte by eight lengths.

Darcy was also completing a double having landed the opening Newgrange Hotel 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle aboard 20/1 shot King Of Merlia.

There was also a double for Meade when Celtic Sammy led home a one-two for the stable in the bumper when beating Major Stampi by two lengths.
