'He needed every yard of that and will mix it between the Flat and hurdles with Galway again part of his plans, although he'll only run once there this year,' said Hughes.
Oriental Ben (14/1, paid 34.20 on the Tote) made all under Davy Condon in the seven furlongs handicap, staying on gamely inside the final quarter mile to beat Lady Guest by a length and a half.
'He seems to be best fresh so we will aim him now at Galway, where he's won before, with maybe a run beforehand at Killarney,' said trainer Tony Mullins.
Peter Casey's stable, a creditable third with Fearn Royal in the feature, struck later when Palace Star (Seamus Heffernan) denied the staying on Noahs Ark by a neck in the mile handicap.
Nina Carberry sent Green Lassy to the front inside the final quarter mile to land the 1m6f amateurs race, where Rockstown Boy (11/10fav) was given far too much to do staying on into sixth.
