Review GOWRAN PARK 16TH AUG

Gowran Park's first Group 3 produced a cosy winner as Race For The Stars landed the 100,000 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud EBF Fillies Stakes in good style.

Kieren Fallon produced his mount to lead just inside the furlong marker and didn't need to get too serious with the daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus to record a half-length verdict over Blessyourpinksox.

'There was no pace early but she did it easy in the end,' said Fallon afterwards. 'She's had a few tough races and hopefully this will give her confidence a boost.'

Fallon and Aidan O'Brien went on to record a double when Chief Running Bear (1/2f) claimed the State Street Ireland (C&G) Maiden.

The colt, also by Fusaichi Pegasus, took time to find his feet but the penny dropped as he hit the lead a furlong out and Fallon was easing him down across the line to score by half-a-length from Carlowsantana.

Xinji looked a smart filly when making all in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, holding the late run of Eskadron by a length.

'She's a nice filly,' said trainer John Oxx afterwards. 'She ran well at Leopardstown, when she got stopped, and would have been placed that day. That form has worked out well.'

'She won nicely today and we'll see if we can get a bit of black type for her. She wants top of the ground and the rain that came didn't really suit her.'

Heather Heath caused a 20/1 shock when giving Pat Carey his first winner in 13 months in the Rooftop Restaurant At Gowran Park Nursery.

The filly swooped wide under Shane Gorey, inside the final furlong, to beat Bluegrass Hill by a length-and-a-quarter.

Artist's Tale bounced back to form with victory in the Kilkenny Racing Festival 6th/7th October Handicap. Pat Smullen's mount hit the front two furlongs out and stayed on well to score by two lengths from Rockazar.

Trainer Dermot Weld revealed the reason behind a poor run at Galway last time was that the gelding had hit himself leaving the stalls and returned lame after the race.

Cool Touch continued on the upgrade when landing his third handicap with a cosy two-length success in the McEnery Cup Handicap.

'That's five out of the mare and they've all won,' said trainer Peter Casey. 'He's improving all the time and he could go for a Listed race.'

Dual bumper winner Crossing opened her account on the Flat when finishing with a flourish inside the final furlong to claim the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
