Review GOWRAN PARK 29TH MAY

Hazariya could be supplemented for the Irish Oaks after getting back to winning ways in the Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park.

Mick Kinane produced the 7/2jf to lead inside the final furlong and deny 20/1 shot Mermaid Island by a length in the Listed contest.

The progressive daughter of Xaar had started the season with two wins but suffered a reverse on fast ground at Naas last time.

'She was dead in herself at Naas - sluggish. She likes the ground easier, really good going,' revealed winning trainer John Oxx.

'She's not in the Irish Oaks but we might supplement her if the forecast is suitable. She's in the Pretty Polly and that's an alternative. She really needs to step up in distance.'

Oxx and Kinane were out of luck earlier when Artist's Muse (5/4 to 4/5f) could only finish third behind Society Hostess in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Pat Smullen sent the winner to the lead early in the straight and she pulled away for a comfortable two-and-a-half-length success over Much Reality.

There was drama close home in the opening juvenile maiden when winner Amigoni (5/2 to 5/4f) veered left in the shadow of the post and badly hampered Taqseem. A stewards enquiry allowed the placings to stand.

Mr Jack Daniels (7/2 to 5/2f) was well backed in the Kilkenny Handicap and was produced late by Fran Berry to deny Cupid's Bow by a length.

Will He Rock followed up last week's Curragh success with an easy victory in the first division of the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap while Go Euro prevailed in a tight finish to the second division of the contest.
