Review CORK 24TH AUG

The famous white and red spotted colours of the Late Senator JJ Parkinson were carried to victory for the first time in three quarters of a century by the Jessica Harrington-trained Moscow Court in the Mitchelstown Maiden Hurdle at Cork yesterday. The colours are now held by his Kildare-based grandson and namesake who is actually on the board of Independent Newspapers.

The Edward O'Grady-trained Golden Row had little more than an exercise canter en route to capturing the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Novice Chase. Partnered by Norman Williamson, Golden Row led from five out to beat Colca Canyon by twenty-five lengths.

Shay Barry made his first ride for Eugene O'Sullivan a winning one by guiding bottom weight Tuba to a game front-running victory over Native Performance in the A.I.B. Mallow Handicap Chase. Tuba incidentally could now run at next month's Listowel festival.

Donnchadh Duggan partnered his first track winner by combining forces with Scariff permit-holder Cormac Flannery to collect the A.I.B. Mares Maiden Hurdle with Jazz Slipper. Incidentally, this was also Flannery's initial success and the American-bred Jazz Slipper will now contest a novice hurdle.
