Meade & Carberry continue good run Paul Carberry gave the well-backed Cloudgazer (5s into 7/2) a lovely ride from the front to win the Laganore Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel. The Dalakhani gelding, a disappointment on his hurdling bow nearly six weeks back, found more from the back of the last to defeat Cullentry Royal and the strong favourite Tobar Na Gaoise by half a length and a head. Carberry said: "He was a bit sketchy over early ones but he jumped the last five very well. He idled a bit in front but he should improve from it." Cloudgazer was a fourth winner for winning handler, Noel Meade and Carberry since Downpatrick on Wednesday. The Stewards requested a report from Mr Noel Meade, trainer, concerning the apparent improvement in form of his winner Cloudgazer compared with his previous run at Roscommon 20th August when the horse was beaten 49 lengths when finishing 6th of 8 finishers behind the winner Easy Reach. Mr Ben Meade, Authorised Representative of Mr Noel Meade reported that their charge disappointed at Roscommon when ridden by D.J. Condon and it was considered that the gelding would benefit from a short break to allow him to freshen up. Today he reappeared and ran over a shorter trip and on a faster surface which in his opinion had the desired effect. Having considered the report the Stewards noted it’s content. The Stewards enquired into an incident on the downhill run during the final circuit involving Templeton, ridden by Mr P. Power, placed fifth and Monahans Girl, ridden by P.T. Enright, unplaced where it appeared that the latter had to check in running. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by Mr Power riding carelessly. Having taken into consideration his excellent previous record the Stewards cautioned him. (DM & EM)
