J.P. McManus completed a good day’s work at Roscommon today as his Teacher’s Pet bagged a hat-trick for the leading owner in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Handicap Chase, when scoring for father/son, trainer/jockey Philip and Luke Dempsey.
Teacher’s Pet, racing from an 8lbs lower rating over fences to hurdles today, was a typically well-backed McManus winner and indeed the daughter of Oscar won with plenty in hand, when scooting home for an eight lengths win over Flemenstorm McManus’ Willie Du Berlais also filling third place.
McManus’ higher profile horses had earlier taken care of business at the Connaught venue, with Jer’s Girl returning to form with a flat winner and Landofhopeandglory winning the featured Grade 3 chase.
Following Teacher’s Pet win, trainer Dempsey reported “I’m delighted with that and she did it well. I was a bit afraid of the ground but when I went out there, I was happier with it.
“She's a classy mare when she puts it all together and was a bit unlucky at Kilbeggan (when unseating rider) but she jumped very well today and we're delighted.
“We'll look for something similar, see what the handicapper does and we'll look at staying chases from 2m4f onwards.
“Things are going great at the minute and hopefully they keep going.”
