Maudlin Magdalen devours ground in Meath Maudlin Magdalen enjoyed the mile trip in Bellewstown once more as she prevailed by half a length from Ruler Of France. The 11/4 favourite (from Burlington Bertie 100/30) raced in second, close to the pace set by Ruler Of France. Angel Of Joy tracked them in third with Cash Or Casualty fourth. Coming off the elbow with two furlongs to race, Maudlin Magdalen moved up to challenge Ruler Of France. She held a narrow advantage coming to the final furlong but Ruler Of France kept battling on the inside. Angel Of Joy began to stay on in third for Colin Keane. Ian Queally on board Maudlin Magdalen kept her up to her work though and she finished best to repel those two opponents. Runner-up Ruler Of France was a 5/1 shot, the same price as third-placed Angel Of Joy who was backed from 7/1 in the morning. He was half a length off Angel Of Joy. Handler Donal Kinsella said: "She showed more than a bit of guts. She eats like a 'horse' and eats me out of house and home. "The boy (Ian Queally) did an extremely good job. He hit her at Leopardstown and I don't think she liked being hit. He carried out instructions to perfection and just pushed her out." Maudlin Magdalen previously won over course and distance in August 2013. This was her fifth career success. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
