Tony Martin landed his third feature race in five days at the Galway Festival when Artful Artist joined his stable companions Quick Jack (Connacht Hotel (QR) Handicap) and Thomas Edison (Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap) in big race glory in the Guinness Handicap.
Martin had another winner too, Greatness, and it was in those same silks, those of Newtown Anner Stud Farm, 7Ib apprentice Sean Corby did the steering on Artful Artist.
Becoming the third winner of the week to score on their second appearance at the meeting (following on from Ridestan and Aranhill Chief Artful Artist (a disappointing favourite over flights on Monday night) got the better of Dermot Weld's Show Court (had looked a winner) by a length and a half.
"What a ride – he was like Kinane or Murtagh.
"The horse was disappointing on Monday night and maybe he just doesn't have the stomach for hurdles.
"He seemed fine Tuesday and Wednesday and we decided to run. Fortunately it's paid off.
"If he hadn't run Monday you could have really fancied him on his previous form," stated Martin. (AM & EM)
