Letter has Limerick target

Connections of promising novice hurdler Letter Of Credit are hoping to but a disappointing run at Cheltenham last weekend behind them after it transpired that the Ger Lynch-trained gelding burst a blood vessel.

The six-year-old son of Bob Back scored twice last term in bumpers, and added to his tally by landing a maiden hurdle in good style at Galway last month to prompt a trip to the Cotswolds.

However after travelling quite well in Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle last Sunday, Barry Geraghty's mount weakened quickly after the second last in the Grade 2 event won by the highly regarded Fingal Bay.

“Barry knew it wasn't like him to cut out so quickly but he's such a bad traveller that the stress of the whole thing probably caused it. He was very nervous on the boat, and we bring a pony with him whenever he's going to the races as he always gets worked up.

“We decided to go over with a view to running at Cheltenham in March. The plan now is to go for a three mile Grade 3 novice hurdle at Limerick after Christmas and we'll take it from there,” said Lynch.
