"My Dad (Fred) died last October and this was the last horse I bought for him. That's why I named him Last Goodbye and it's a sentimental winner," explained Liz Doyle after her even money market-leader had taken the concluding race of the year at Roscommon, the Frenchpark (Pro/Am) Flat Race under Finny Maguire.
The well-related Goffs Land Rover Bumper eighth place finisher, had favourite backers anticipating payment when cruising up to deliver his challenge in the straight.
That expectation turned to worry when Katie Walsh arrived on the scene going equally well on Peter Fahey's newcomer, Earth Sister
Despite drifting away to his left, the victorious Millenary gelding proved too strong for the challenging Captain Rio filly from over a furlong out, staying on well to oblige by three lengths.
In a good sign for the form Last Goodbye and Earth Sister left Field Robin all of sixteen lengths back in third.
"He pulled hard, was very green, and he'll improve. He's for sale so hopefully someone will buy him to stay in the yard. Ian Williams bred him, and he had Glen Beg with me who was placed in Aintree," added a very much in-form Miss Doyle.
