Lady Wingshot ever improving Lady Wingshot wore down long-time leader Pearl In The Sand 100 yards out to take Leopardstown’s seven furlong fillies maiden by half a length from Ahimsa. The 2/1 favourite for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning has improved her form figures with each run as they now read 321. The two-year-old filly is entered in Newmarket’s Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and Jim Bolger spoke highly of her afterwards. He said: “You would have to say she’s an improver. “I thought she might win at Naas but she was near as made no difference [beaten a short head into second]. “Seven furlongs seems to suit her and she’ll get a mile. We’ll see how she comes out of this. We’ll be onwards and upwards. “She’ll be decent next year and I expect her to improve a good bit.” Lady Wingshot also picked up a £10,000 Racing Post yearling bonus in addition to 11,730 euro for winning the race. Ahimsa took the runner-up spot at 4/1, with jockey Joseph O’Brien putting up three pounds overweight. Pearl In The Sand held on for third place at 9/1. The money came for Kevin Prendergast’s unraced Shamardal filly Bulbul, 6/1 to 5/2 in the morning and 3/1 to 9/4 on course. She came home sixth of the ten runners, beaten just over four lengths. She is entered in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. Bolger also passed on some information on his promising two-year-old Zip Top. He said: “He was very quiet in himself for some time and you would have to assume he wasn’t on song last time [sixth of seven in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes]. “He’s coming back into fast work and could run in three to four weeks.” Michael Graham
