Review LEOPARDSTOWN 24th Jul Rip Van Winkle shot to the top of the market for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket next season with an impressive dismissal of Cuis Ghaire in the Tyros Stakes.Johnny Murtagh was always travelling easily on the Ballydoyle youngster and had the move covered when 1000 Guineas market leader Cuis Ghaire struck the front a furlong and a half out in the Group Three contest.Rip Van Winkle (11-8) quickened up impressively and swept past the 8-11 favourite for victory by a length and a quarter, looking to have plenty left in the tank.Coral's reaction was to make the Galileo colt their 8-1 favourite for next season's Classic, while Cuis Ghaire remains 8-1 market leader for the fillies' version. Hills' 14-1 about Rip Van Winkle was snapped up and they cut him to 10-1.King Of Rome made it another red-letter day for the Aidan O'Brien team when completing a treble for the yard in the Group Three Meld Stakes.Stable companion King Of Westphalia set the pace to Johnny Murtagh's mount, who went on two furlongs out and made the best of his way home.Mustameet could not lay down a challenge from the rear and it was left to Lord Admiral to give chase, but it was in vain as King Of Rome (5-4) kept up the gallop all the way to score by two lengths.Gluteus Maximus stepped up considerably on his Naas debut with a stylish victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden to open the Ballydoyle account.Cristal Island took charge two furlongs out, but Johnny Murtagh had the 33-1 shot in his sights and Gluteus Maximus (7-2) quickened up nicely to take over in the final 100 yards for a length-and-a-quarter success.Monivea (8-1) got the better of a final-furlong duel with favourite Intimate Secret to land the Tattersalls Ireland EBF Fillies Maiden.The eventual runner-up was always up front and took over a furlong and a half out, but Davy Moran brought Monivea through to challenge and Brian Nolan's filly got on top in the final 50 yards to win by three-quarters of a length.Capall An Ibre (11-1) had a big lead at half© www.irish-racing.com
