Kilbeggan Lad takes feature hurdle

Michael Hourigan´s powerful Patrickswell yard has gone through a quiet patch over the past few months but he opened his account at Listowel this week in style by taking the featured Guinness Handicap Hurdle with Kilbeggan Lad.

The 14/1 chance was confidently ridden by Denis O´Regan, leading between the final two flights to beat Dbest by two and a half lengths with Blue Corrig a further two lengths back in third.

Luxi River insured a truly run two miles by setting off at a scorching gallop and, as a result, the 15-runner field was well strung out in the straight with the three principals finishing clear of the remainder.

´This horse was very in and out last season but my horses were sick at the time. He has a preference for going left-handed and Denis feels there is another big one in him,´ said Hourigan.

He added, ´I will have 80 to 100 horses this winter and Denis and Andrew McNamara will share the rides.´
